A Journey to the Spirit

A Journey to the Spirit

INTRODUCTION

Over my past 60 years as a Freemason I have witnessed, and even participated in, the conferral of ceremonies wherein the brethren responsible for the delivery of same have had little or no understanding of the Esoteric nature of the ceremony itself.

Why this is so I attribute to the lack of Masonic Education dealing with such matters resulting in the perpetuation of this practice even to this day.

This brings me to WHY I have decided to compile this Manual and my sharing it with you “The Reader”

For clarification I offer the following:-

  1. Due to the many rituals being practiced in the World Wide Masonic Community all references to workings are referred to as “Ceremonies”. This being the case, the reader is, of necessity, requested to apply the information provided herein to the particular ritual that he is most familiar with.
  1. Descriptions, explanations etc. are those which I have personally developed over the years and which I have no difficulty sharing with you the Reader.
  1. The title “A Journey to the Spirit” has been chosen,  as it helps to emphasize that, in my opinion, Freemasonry is a “Personal Spiritual Journey”
  1. My fervent hope is, that through my efforts in compiling this manual, more light will be brought to Brethren, both old and new and, in doing so, make their Masonic journey much more pleasant, relaxing & informative.
  1. My apologies are offered regarding the frequent use of “I “. This I attribute to the necessity of making it clear that the views expressed, while possibly shared by others, are mine

Recognition & Acknowledgements

My research has led me to the writings of many authors, including, but not exclusively the following:-

William. L. Wilmshurst                   The Meaning of Masonry and many other titles.

P.T. Runton                                       The Key of Masonic Initiation

Colin Dyer                                         Symbolism in Craft Masonry

William Robinson                             The Spirit of Freemasonry

Bernard E. Jones                              Freemason’s Guide & Companion

Manley P. Hall                                  The Lost Keys of Freemasonry

I also wish to acknowledge the personal friendships and spiritual benefits that I have gained, and the support received, from my personal relationships with Brethren over the years.

Due to the impossibility of being able to name each and every one of such Brethren & the risk of omitting even one, I have decided to simply say:-

Thank You to the G.A.O.T.U. for his many blessings.

Last, but not by any means least, are my thanks to my wife Peggy, who after 57 years of marriage continues to be my greatest supporter and inspiration in life.

Have a wonderful Day & God Bless You and Yours Brother Norm.
