{"id":118,"date":"2007-12-02T14:58:52","date_gmt":"2007-12-02T22:58:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theeduca.mywhc.ca\/?p=118"},"modified":"2007-12-02T14:58:52","modified_gmt":"2007-12-02T22:58:52","slug":"the-evergreen-the-campfire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashlarcollege.ca\/ashlar-archived\/the-evergreen-the-campfire\/","title":{"rendered":"The Evergreen &#038; the Campfire"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\u00a0The Evergreen<\/h2>\n<h5>Courtesy of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba<\/h5>\n<p>The <strong>Evergreen<\/strong>, which once marked the temporary resting place of one illustrious in Masonic history, is an emblem of our abiding faith in the immortality of the soul.<\/p>\n<p>By it, we are reminded of our high and glorious destiny in our Father\u2019s Kingdom; and that there dwells within each of us an imperishable immortal spirit, which lives eternally.<\/p>\n<p>In the steadfast faith of Freemasonry there is an enduring belief in the wisdom and goodness of God, and a trusting reliance that, like this <strong>Evergreen<\/strong>, our souls will hereafter flourish in eternal spring. It is an emblem of our Faith and of our Hope and we are comforted in the Belief that our Brother has found entrance to a fairer and brighter world.\u00a0 As we place our hand over our Left Breast we think to ourselves;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201c His Memory is Faithfully Cherished in our Hearts\u201d.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As we extend our right hand over the Apron, dropping the sprig of evergreen we think to ourselves;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201c <strong>To the grave we consign the remains of our Departed Brother\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We raise our right hand and point it upward, we think to ourselves;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>\u201c We commit his spirit to God who gave it\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Something we all need to remember<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a tale of same Masons surrounding a campfire in the Old West, at night, and discussing the Fraternity and it\u2019s teachings. One old Mason listened patiently, and finally spoke up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c I can tell you more about Freemasonry in a little example than some of the great Masonic Philosophers can in books. Everybody stand up, and gather in a circle around the campfire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They did that\u00a0 \u201c Now hold hands\u201d They did that too. \u201cNow what do you see looking ahead?.\u00a0 \u201c The face of a Brother Mason through the flames\u201d \u201c What do you feel in front of you?\u201d \u201c The warmth of the fire, and the comfort it brings on a cool night. \u201c What do you feel at you side?\u201d \u201cThe warm hand of a Brother\u201d \u201cOK . Now drop you hands, and turn around\u201d They did so. \u201cNow what do you see, looking ahead?.\u201d \u201cComplete darkness\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you feel, looking ahead?\u201d \u201c A sense of loneliness, of being alienated.\u201d \u201cWhat do you feel at your side?.\u201d \u201c Nothing at all\u201d \u201cWhat do you feel on your backside?.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cThe warmth of the fire\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it is with Freemasonry\u201d said the old man. \u201c In Masonic gatherings, you can feel the warmth of Masonic interaction, you can see the face of a Brother through the light Freemasonry brings you, and you can always feel the warm hand of a Brother. When you turn away from Masonry, and are out in the World, you see darkness, feel alienated and alone, and do not feel the warm hand of a Masonic Brother.
