This month I have V.W. Bro. David Trace to thank.<\/p>\n<p>It is called \u201c <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">THE TRIPLE FILTER TEST<\/span><\/strong>\u201d as coined by the great Greek Philosopher Socrates. And is as follows:-<\/p>\n<p>In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem.<\/p>\n<p>One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher on the street and said \u201c Socrates, do you know what I just heard about your good friend?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c Hold on a minute\u201d Socrates continued \u201c Before telling me anything I\u2019d like you to pass a little test.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s called the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Triple Filter Test.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTriple Filter????????\u201d \u201c That\u2019s right Socrates continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment to filter out what you are going to say. The first filter is <strong>TRUTH<\/strong>. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is the truth?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo\u201d the man said, \u201c I actually just heard about it and \u2026\u2026\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll right\u201d said Socrates. \u201cSo you don\u2019t really know if it\u2019s true or not\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now let\u2019s try the second filter, the filter of <strong>GOODNESS.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?<\/p>\n<p>\u201c No, on the contrary\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo\u201d Socrates continued, \u201c You want to tell me something bad about him but you are not certain if it\u2019s true. You still have a chance to pass the test because there is one filter left, the filter of <strong>USEFULNESS. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, not really\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, \u201c concluded Socrates, \u201c If what you want to tell me is neither <strong>TRUE, GOOD<\/strong> or even <strong>USEFUL<\/strong> , why bother telling me at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MORAL<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The above TEST made me think about the obligation in the Master Mason Degree.<\/p>\n<p>Gossip and rumours can be so much fun, however, they can also be very devastating.<\/p>\n<p>This test would be something to remember by all of us for the next time we find ourselves in such a situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">BITS and PIECES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
