Hail, ye Brethren of the Craft, and hearken unto these words, for they bear great import. To serve as an Officer within the Lodge is a duty of high esteem, entrusted unto those of steadfast heart and noble mind. This course, prepared with care by the learned stewards of Ashlar College, doth seek to bestow upon thee the wisdom of the Antients, that thou mayest discharge thy station with dignity, skill, and unwavering fidelity.
Know ye, that he who wouldst bear the mantle of office must first be well-versed in the labors thereof. The Worshipful Master, who sitteth in the East, must rule with wisdom and temperance; the Senior and Junior Wardens must uphold their charge with vigilance; the Secretary must inscribe with diligence; and the Treasurer must safeguard the wealth of the Lodge with prudence. Each man hath his duty, and in its proper fulfillment shall the harmony of the Lodge be preserved.
Thus, let not this charge be taken lightly, for upon thee resteth the honor of thy Lodge and the preservation of our most sacred traditions. Apply thyself with earnest spirit, that when thine hour cometh to assume thy place among the Officers, thou shalt do so with confidence, knowledge, and the approbation of thy Brethren.
Go forth, therefore, and labor well, that in thee the Light of Freemasonry may shine evermore.
